Lawn Hill National Park

Lawn Hill National Park is a serene beautiful place with a name that sounds like a retirement village. The road here doesn't attrack grey nomads though as it is rough going and high clearance plus 4WD is an order. The route here is well off the beatten path and takes you through big sky pastures seething with thousands of skinny cows randomly crossing the road.  Sign posts warn you of the dangers of crossing cattle but don't really prepare you for the adrenaline pumping near misses of entire herds. I think we seared a few. The journey by Gregory Downs and Burk and Willis Roadhouse will allow you to experience cattle country life and the good old outback cowboy pubs. Full of life and character and very fun indeed.
At the park Adel's Grove is a virtual oasis with its hot spring creek inviting a swim but the highlight is to take a paddle up the gorge to the quadruple falls, have a swim, portage a short way, then paddle to the end.  Turtles, crocs, bruglas and many fish hang out in the jade waters. No salties here so life is good.
