Bower Bird Wants a Wife

We found this bower bird in his bower on the ground  at Adel's Grove, at Lawn Hill NP. A bower is likened to a bachelor pad built by the male bower bird. It is meticulously built and every detail is attend too including the flashy, eye popping landscaping around it.  As we looked in from not far away he paid little attention to us and continued to preen and organize the small twigs of the inside walls. He builds an amazing intricate home and fills it with his own personal touch  in hopes of attracting a mate or two. If she is impressed then he will mate. His girlfriend will then she will fly away and build a nest for the eggs.  So a bower isn't a nest at all simply a bachelor pad to attract the hot chicks (pun intended).  This bower was very impressive with shiny things such as foil bits, white rocks, bottle caps, and perfectly uniform round rocks all placed with intention. Apparently each bower bird has his own decorating style and some will actually paint the walls with colours such as charcoal or berry juice.

Lots of white and shiny foil help to impress a mate as the entrance is grand.
