Karijini National Park- Western Australia

Spectacular Karijini National Park is know for it's breathtaking gorges, stunning waterfalls, and idyllic swimming holes. All these superb features are accented with rich ochre earth and emerald waters fringed with seasonal brightly coloured wildflowers. It was a highly recommended stop by many travellers we spoke with...
Our adventure-seeking clan still buzzing with Exmouth's Whale Shark encounters remained unconvinced that the dry and dusty featureless outback of our next stop could attempt to rival the previous adrenaline rush activity. A quick shopping stop in Tom Price , an uneventful, unimpressive, stale mining town added to our pessimism. We were skeptical that Karijini NP could compare Cape Range NP. We set up camp on the eastern outside edge of the park overlooking a grand gorge bisected by the great Northern Hwy. Each night was punctuated by a stunning sunset and a campfire. As for our impression of Karijini NP after our three day stay, Amazing! Not only in it's natural beauty but it's rugged accessibility and the intact sense of adventure that is so characteristic in it's gorges. If it wasn't for the thunderheads that finally let loose the evening of our third day, we would have stayed on longer. Rain in Australia and gorge hiking is a lethal combination.

Our first hike brought us into Weno Gorge trail (class 4/5). Several kms passing through narrow  waterways leads to Handrail pool and Jade pool. We had no idea that we were going to be swimming part of it.
