Where the Beach is The Highway

Fraser Island's Beach Road

Fraser Island is a 120km long SAND island a short 40 min ferry ride out of Hervey Bay QLD.  A uncrowded paradise  of sand and sea and accessible only to 4WD vehicles. This island is primed for adventure. The sand roads of the island are deep and narrow. Locals will tell you that they aren't any better today then they were 40 years ago. Funnier still is that the beach is the road for the length of the island on the eastern side. It is passable with tides permitting. Rain forest grows thick and lush in the interior of the island and a sand track will take you to a few of the clearest lakes with stark white sand beaches and a few low key resorts which dot the islands coast. The island is home to a healthy population of hungry dingos and sign postings prevail warning visitors to keep children close by. There is even a fenced picnic area for people to deter the dingos from pinching food for unsuspecting tourist.
We spent three action packed days exploring Fraser Island,  We blazed a trail through the deep sands....and only got bogged once:) This is another top of the list Must Do's.
(Posts and pictures to follow over the next few days)
With the Beach being the major highway, speed signage is posted on the sandy beach shore.

German tourists bogged.

Better them then us. We did stop and help them out.
