The Elusive Sapphire

Like any gambler, we had to take the punt. We hired a guy named Keith. a supposed expert fossickler to take us out to the "special spot" and show us the trade of fossicking for sapphires. An early start at 7am still managed to trap us into sifting through piles of dirt in 43 degree heat by 11am. We did find some sapphires but not the elusive lottery winning super rock. Enjoyable and fascinating but not enough to keep us from retreating to the air conditoned car by 11:30
Uncut green saphire show to us by a lady at the caravan park in Saphire. This was the cumulation of 20 years worth of fossicking in the region.
The biggest gem was a large green frog found in the rinse tub.
Sifting through the rubbish
The many sifting bins
Camels roam the streets of Sapphire.(the most exciting thing about this adventure)
