Alice Springs

Smack dab in the centre of the red Australian landscape is Alice Springs. It is a long way from nowhere and has a reputation as just that.  The town here is dissected by the Todd River which is dry most of the year and the McDonald Ranges home to some very cool red rock gorges.
Alice is home to many aboriginals and a stopping point for tourists voyaging to the iconic rock (Uluru). The town is surprisingly large and well equip, full of Americans, and has a very hip art scene. The area know as Utopia has produced some of the most renown artist in the aboriginal communities. In my humble opinion..it is far superior to any other aboriginal art to date.
Unfortunately you won't be finding any bargain prices.  The galleries here are fairly upmarket.  The best stuff can set you back $40K,  However looking is free.
