The voyage from Normanton to Cairns took us past the vast cattle country of the Atherton Tablelands. The towns of Atherton and Yongaburra have quaint farmy feel familiar to typical farming towns.. The added bonus it the boutique eateries and cafes.
From Atherton to Cairns the landscape changes dramatically to a tropical rain forest with excellent waterfalls, lush vegetation and the odd hot spring to delight the weary young travellers. The final bit of the road is a serious windy as it dramatically descends to the Coral Sea.
