Some of the locals will tell you Litchfield do and Kaka-don't. We don't agree. There is a special spirit here. Unlike the adrenaline pumping Karinjini WA or the exciting circus-like Litchfield, Kakadu is understated.
The landscape from the road is redundant and uneventful. It is obvious that the caretakers of the land don't want to make it too easy to be here. Most of the best sites are accessed only by serious off roading, long corrugations of dirt, and deep water crossings. Sites are far apart and take time to see. We found some of the best swimming holes and waterfalls of all and had them often to ourselves.
Kakadu has an eerie quietness about it and offers a feeling of remote. The aboriginals as the care takers of the lands of Kakadu in conjunction with the Australian Govt, deserve praise. It has been well preserved.
Rock Art Site Ubirr- Layers upon layers of art here. Characteristic was the X-ray painting of particularly fish like Saratoga and Barrimundi.. This wall also adorned with a blanda (white man) standing with his hands in pockets.
