The Sat/Sunday market culture in Darwin is excellent. The indonesian influence is seen in the variety of foods and crafts. Mango Lassi and sugar cane sticks quickly became a favorite for the J and C along with Fried coconut and bananna fritters..
Leader Creek- one of those fun- off the beaten path places. Nothing there but a boat ramp, lots of flies, and a grubby kiosk with a collage of photos of fishermen and their huge barramundi plastered to the window. And toothless Chris-The Lord of the Ramp, collects the ramp fees and then goes back to decorating mud crab remains with beer cans and cigarettes. (below)
The crowds of tourists flock to the beach on Thurs and Sundays for the evening Mandile Market. With wine and food in hand the sunset is a draw card. Great market, excellent Indonesian food stalls, and the sunsets here are unsurpassed.
Another day done and dusted on the top end of Australia. Time to move on.
