Seventeen Seventy

Someone must have been really tired of thinking of good place names when they arrived here. The name Seventeen Seventy doesn't lead your imagination into preconceived delusions of grandeur to say the least. After a bit of investigation..it does get a bit more interesting. In fact James Cook arrived here in 1770. Hence the name.
1770 is on the western side of a sandy spit. It boasts a few businesses, a handful of accommodations, a sandy beach, boardwalk, park, and a conservation area at the tip. This is the launching pad for Lady Elliot Island.
We came here looking for surf and none was to be had so we moved onto the East side of the spit to a town with another bad name.. Agnes Waters.
