Our three day excursion north to Cape Leveques aboriginal lands is the scene of bizarre mars like landscape fringing uncrowded beaches and a chance to experience some indigenous culture.
The road there is for 4WD vehicles only as it quickly turns to dirt and the deep rows of red dirt called Pindan can send you unexpectedly squirrelly. But worse then the red pindan is the miles of corrugation and the axle breaking ruts hidden by the pindan. The road converts back to paved after about 80 kms of dirt and the remainder of the trip is a breeze.

Caravans aren't allowed in Cape Leveque so leaving our caravan behind we booked accommodations at multi award ecotourism winner Kooljaman resort. They run aboriginal cultural tours however on our days the aboriginal tour operator had gone walk-about. Much to Mr. C's dismay the spear making tour was a no go.
Other then the spectacular scenery, relaxing atmosphere, excellent restaurant, and variety of tours at kooljaman, there is also a aboriginal owned aquaculture center. Here you can feed the iconic barramundi and the adorable sea turtles, learn about the aboriginal hunting and fishing techniques.
