Cable Beach -again

Yes, More Cable Beach, Broome. We are still here.  The redundancy of topics is due to our length of stay in Broome. To date, Broome will be the location that we have stayed at the longest...a whole three weeks and a bit.Not because we love it but Mr. M is doing some consulting here in Broome and being that we are incomeless and jobless for the entire year we plan to travel...we decided to hang out and earn some vacation money...which we will spend when we travel to Bali out of Darwin in the coming months. Might have to change the name of the blog to All Over downunder and Bali:)
Zanders Fish and Chips shop (top right) for a Burramundi fillet. Yum!
Incase you mght have forgotten something...the cable beach van will rent you everything from an umbrella, surf board, loung chairs, sand toys, body boards, and even a surf instructor.
There are more French and Germans on this beach then the rest of the world 's nationality put together.

The Hero

Crocs are found in the waters in and around Cable Beach. The croc spotter is the hero plane that has a routinely scheduled scan over Cable beach several times a day on the look out for Saltwater crocodiles that might be entering into the bay. Water here is clear which crocs dislike however several times a year Cable Beach is closed due to a rouge croc. Last month a croc jumped clean out of the water and attacked a Broome dentist in his boat. The dentist lived to tell the story but claimed it was due to the tourists feeding chicken to the crocs over the sides of the boats.
This is the last Beach swimming we will be able to do until we are well south on the east coast of Australia. The deadly "salties" live in the ocean shallows but can also be found well up river too. They are a highly respected danger by those who frequent the North of Australia. Crafty, calculated, and determined are the words that describe them..Yet another nasty!

They left out the part about the sharks and crocs:)
Appearently the killer stingers are out during certain seasons (not now) There are also the other variety of stinger here that just make you wish you were dead because the sting is so painful.
Certinaly they could have come up with somethig better then that.
Another 30 something degree day...

Ouch!

We came across this Wicked Camper van rental in Coral Bay, WA.  If your not familiar with Wicked camper van rental company, they are a inexpensive camper rental very popular amongst backpacker travellers in many countries.  Each van is uniquely graffitied with amusing and often edgy messages and pictures that support the message. This one sported an Aussie flag in the front window.  Looks like American bashing is all the rage these days. Any Yanks viewing this post....feel free to comment.

Staircase To The Moon

As the moon is at it's fullest and the tide is in it's lowest, something spectacular and unique occurs at Broomes Town Beach each month that makes tourists and locals alike  collect there at dusk. The moon slowly rises above the mud flats as the refection off the damp sands creates a staircase appearance know as Staircase to the Moon.
This event is accompanied by a local evening market at the town beach where everything from food stalls, pearls, clothing, coffee and other bits and pieces are for offered for sale.

The Staircase to the Moon is a excellent bargain for good, casual, relaxed, fun entertainment. Cost is free, BYO drinkys and food. Don't forget the tripod for really good photos. I forgot mine and missed out on really good photos.

Broome WA - Nude, Pearlicious, and The Best Hump on the Beach

The playful buzz words around Broome's booming tourism are clothing optional, pearlicious, and finding the best hump on the beach. An exciting combination that brings tourism of all ages flooding into Broome during the dry season.
Broome's Cable beach offers white sands, warm water, surfing, body boarding, beautiful sunsets, walk to gourmet eateries, and a clothing optional section. And...furthermore, if you so choose, you can drive your car on the beach, bring your dog, publicly drink your beer and wine, all at sunset, in your birthday suit. How fun is that?
If pearls aren't your thing, it could be that you just haven't been to Broome. I can attest to being a convert. A short trip to the many pearl shops and farms is an education in it's self. The extra thick, lustrous nacre characteristic of these regional pearls makes them superior. Broome's Chinatown area is fully loaded with pearl shops. No great deals but lots of options to purchase direct from the farms and set the pearls to your liking or ready to go pearl jewellery.
For the Best Hump on the Beach..again lots of options. Red, Blue or Black, mid-day or sunset rides are your choices. Cable Beach offers the iconic sunset camel ride with one of three companies. Each company identified by the distinct colour of camel saddle cloth. The most popular option is the amazing hour long sunset camel ride on the beach right through the clothing optional section. The camel tour's tourist branded nature coupled with sales pitch for packaged photos of you and your camel detracts from the experience somewhat but the camels are enchanting and the experience memorable. The three companies that run the camels are locally know for their "Camel Wars". Apparently there was a rather ugly conflict a few years ago and a couple of cameliers ended up jailed. Competition is stiff and each vendor has their own sinister tactics in luring tourist their way.  The story goes further into accusations of bribery and the shire of Broome being all too involved. Sounds like the making of a good movie.
